Upgraded to 1.7 – Sidebar widget stopped working.

    I just upgraded to 1.7 on my site and the SiteAds widget that I had in the main sidebar stopped displaying.

    Here’s the front page of the site with the highlighting indicating where the ad should be displayed.

    When I remove the Ad Rotator widget and replace it with a Text widget using the shortcode [adinserter name=”SiteAds”], the ad is displayed so I can use that as a workaround.

    I’m confused.
    You are using Ad Rotator widget?

    If it is Ad Inserter please check that the widget is enabled for “SiteAds”.

    OK, now I see the problem.

    You have filter configured.
    Delete it (put 0).

    In 1.7.0 support for call counter/filter for widgets was added.

    Yes, it is Ad Rotator widget and the widget is enabled for SiteAds. Are you able to see the screenshots I posted?

    When I delete the filter, the plug-in places an ad after every post excerpt on the main page which I don’t want. I had to add that filter after the upgrade to 1.6.7. We discussed it at that time.

    Still confused.

    This support forum is for Ad Inserter.

    If you are using code block for homepage and you are using filter then the same settings will be used also for widget.

    But you already found a workaround with shortcode (which does not use filters).
    I’ll consider adding an option for widgets to ignore some settings.

    I want to use the Ad Inserter widget in the main sidebar only to display once on each page.

    This was working until the upgrade to 1.6.7 which required me to check the Homepage checkbox (see first image above) to get that sidebar ad to display on the front page of the site. That setting also resulted in the ad being displayed under EVERY post excerpt on the main page so I used the filter to limit the number of times it would display. That was a workaround that I could accept.

    Now with 1.7.0, the Sidebar widget stopped displaying entirely unless I remove that filter as you suggested which again results in the ads display after every post excerpt.

    I realize I’ve been using the terms ‘Ad Rotator’ and ‘Ad Inserter’ interchangeably so that might have confused the issue. I’m using Ad Inserter 1.7.0 and trying to use the Ad Inserter widget.

    I think having the sidebar widget ignore the filter setting would be a great idea. It seemed to do that until this latest version. Better yet, there should be a way to show the sidebar widget without showing any ads under the post excerpts as was possible before 1.6.7.

    Well, you are using one code block for two different placements.
    Widget has nothing to do with excerpts.
    The easiest solution would be to use separate code block with required settings for each placement.

    But I’ll try to add options for widgets to ignore some settings.
