Upgraded: Now getting ‘Too Many Redirects…’

  • I upgraded one of my sites and now I get this huge message when trying to access my admin area.

    I don’t know why its saying this about the redirects.

This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting. If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

    How can I get to them if I cant get in my admin area?
    I can get into my Headway Visual Editor. But not into my WordPress Admin area.

    I was getting this error message when trying to click on a category, tag or post. I tried esmi’s solution – and it worked!

    esmi, what if changing the permalinks does not work? This problem only seems to happen on certain servers with WordPress 3.x, not 2.x. I think it is an issue with the htaccess and WP3 and the server, but not sure how to fix.
    I can log into the admin, but when I got to the site itself, it gives me the too many redirects error.

    I decided to write up a solution. It drove me crazy last weekend when I got into this problem. Hope it helps. Good luck!
