On the dashboard, under Tools > Ugrade, it says

You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to upgrade

but I have wordpress 2.8.3 installed.

I consider this a problem because the wordpress.com stats plug-in is kaputt.

So I would like to upgrade to 3.0.1 and maybe get wordpress.com stats working. How do I go about this?

Oh and I don’t know if this helps but I’m hosted at dreamhost.

Thnaks for any help in advance.

  • Have you tried:

    – backing up your database

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem.

    – switching to the default theme.

    – running the upgrade.

thank you esmi, deactivating all plug-ins allowed me to automatically upgrade3 to 3.0.1.

I guess wordpress.com stats doesn’t retroactively monitor hits to your site… bummer.

Such a large jump between WP versions is likely to bring up compatibility issues in plugins, which in turn may cause a white screen for each page on your site. So, de-activating plugins before upgrade is really important.

If you forget to do it before upgrading, all’s not lost, you can either clear the active_plugins field in the options table using phpmyadmin or rename the plugins folder so that the plugins aren’t loaded (WP will then deactive them because it can’t find them).
