• Hi – I have been inactive on my since upgrading to WP version 3.3.1 and have noticed that the text on my previously created posts/pages is missing from the dashboard edit functions. New pages are fine

The pages can be seen from the web but not from the edit window and it is not html or visual tab.

Any suggestions please – many thanks
    Mike

  • You mean the older posts text is not displayed either in the html editor also?

    Yes – exactly that

Did you checked the excerpt of your older posts?

Please check the excerpt box also, it can be that the text is being displayed from the excerpt instead.

I did a bit of poking around and with one post got the versions at the bottom of the page. Couldn’t quite work out what you mean by exerpt box.

What I did discover is that when I run cursor across the edit content box and drag down to the bottom ofwhere the content should be, the text appears in light blue and not black. It seems that the visual tab instead of HTML is locked on and I can’t switch between the two[I may have never been able to and not realised it]

Could this be a toggle somewhere that I need to go back and switch in settings, had a look and couldn’t see anything relevant.

    Appreciate your help – thanks

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Hi Esmi

Thanks for your advice I am a bit unclear what point 3 means and where I action, Dashboard or in the directory where I have the wordpress files stored on my site.

I understand that FTP is an acronym for file transfer file protocol and I am deducting that PHP myadmin is something to to do with admin for plugins in my wordpress folders? But exactly what am I restting and how do I go about it please?

    thanks Mike

Deativating all the existing plugins made any diference?

Regarding the Esmi reply just follow the below steps to reset the plugin directory.

Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

    Hi Gaurabmani

Deactivating the plugins sytematically didn’t work. I appreciate the step by step FTP instructions.

I’ll give a whirl and let you know – you help is appreciated

    Thank you – Mike

    Hi Gaurabmani

The step by step FTP instructions were easy to follow but unfortunately didn’t work.

When this version of WP came out I thought I read somewhere that there some bugs and stuff went missing like this – do you recall this or am I making this up? Or is what we have tried, some of those fixes?

I tried to re-edit some text again tonight by scrolling the cursor over, it brings the light blue text up but doesn’t allow you to delete stuff – it’s really frustrating!!
