• Hi Everyone,
I have just upgraded my word press to version 3.5.2 and all of my content has vanished? When i login to the backend it shows my content but when i click on it it says no posts but saying there are posts there? Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

    Thanks

    Rockyuk

  • Yes of course, but at least the OP will know if the posts are there and worse-case, can copy and paste the contents or export the DB and import it into a fresh install either hosted or local and try to fix it there.

You can’t export a damaged database into a fresh one and expect the new one to work. The new one will also be damaged. Nor can you “re-construct” a new database from a damaged one. The cross-table relationships are just too complex. That’s why we keep harping on about making regular database backups. At the end of the day, if your db is trashed and you don’t have a good backup, your data is toast.

I guess we are getting a bit off-topic here, but what I was suggesting is not to import it into a new DB, only a fresh WP installation, preferably local, with just the defaults, and try to get it sorted there. And yep, that is why I too also harp about backups! ?? Seems that many do not heed the warning on the Update page to do so BEFORE updating ??

You could set up a fresh install and then re-construct your old site manually but it would take a lot of searching by hand through tables to find the old post/page content. And even then, it’s unlikely to be exactly the same (permalinks will differ etc).

Then there’s the problem of moving the re-constructed site onto the old domain which may prove too much for many users. Personally, I’d like to see more non-technical site owners signing up to https://vaultpress.com/ There’s a cost involved but, if there ever is a major db meltdown, it’s the perfect solution to restoring a complete site.
