upgrade to 2.7 killed all three of my blogs, please help!
-
Hi there,
I’ve been using various versions of WordPress on the three blogs I maintain (otherthings.com/blog, otherthings.com/grafarc/blog, and a third one which is private.)
The main blog (otherthings.com/blog) had a very old version of WP on it, so I decided today to upgrade it to 2.7. (I wasn’t able to backup the database beforehand for reasons I won’t get into…) So I went ahead and did the upgrade according to the rest of the instructions.
And it worked.
For about five minutes.
Now, all three of my blogs are broken– all you get when you visit the page is a “database error”.
I’ve been trying to reconstruct what might have gone wrong, and here’s what I’ve discovered so far.
Earlier this year, when I added my second and third blogs, I reused the same database, and distinguished the tables by changing the “table_prefix” variable. I did this because I don’t have the permissions to create new databases on my server, and I didn’t want to bother my gracious webhost, who’s a friend of mine and kinda busy.
Today, when I upgraded one of the three blogs to WP 2.7, and the button came up to “upgrade the database”, I blithely clicked it. In doing so, did I somehow completely ruin the entire database for all three blogs?
I blame nobody but myself for this situation– but is there any way to recover the contents of my three blogs from total oblivion???
Please forgive my ignorance here– ANY pointers in the right direction would be very helpful! (And I’m more than happy to RTFM if you can tell me where to find one!)
