• I recently upgraded from WP 1.5 to 2.1.3, and since the upgrade, everything on my blog, front end and back end, loads very slowly. Often, it can take over 5 minutes for a page to load. Also, neither Bloglines nor Google Reader is picking up my feeds. The blog seemed to load fine at first, but after I hit “Publish” for my first post-upgrade post, it began it’s turtle-like loading. Is there an easy solution to this?

  • A link to your blog would help.

Have you optimized your database recently?

You did run the upgrade script, right?

Anyhting in your webserver’s error logs?

Have you tried turning off your plugins and seeing if that helps?

    Sorry, blog: https://www.goblin-cartoons.com/

I’ve tried turning off my plugins, but it still loaded slowly.

I did run the upgrade script.

Not to sound like an idiot, but I don’t know how to optimize my database.

Checking my error logs, I am seeing a repeated error message:

mod_security: Access denied with code 500. Pattern match “^$” at HEADER(“USER-AGENT”) [severity “EMERGENCY”] [hostname “www.goblin-cartoons.com”] [uri “/robots.txt”]

    and

mod_security: Access denied with code 500. Pattern match “^$” at HEADER(“USER-AGENT”) [severity “EMERGENCY”] [hostname “www.goblin-cartoons.com”] [uri “/”]

    and

mod_security: Access denied with code 500. Pattern match “^$” at HEADER(“USER-AGENT”) [severity “EMERGENCY”] [hostname “www.goblin-cartoons.com”] [uri “/feed/atom/”]

–and similar error messages, but for different pages of my blog.

After reading a post with a similar problem, it looks like my problem is (or could be) a mod_security (and therefore not a WP) problem. Unfortunately, I don’t know what to do about this.

    Can anyone suggest a solution?
