    Hello-
I am a newbie to the forums. This morning GoDaddy told me to upgrade WordPress. I asked if there was any danger of losing my blog entries. They said, it would be fine. I followed their instructions while logged into my account on GoDaddy and now I have Fatal errors showing up on both the Dashboard page and my wordpress blog page. I called GoDaddy and they told me to wait for 24 hours and it would be fine. I asked the tech if he had had this issue before. He said, he gets many calls every day and couldn’t answer that.

    My wordpress page is:
    https://artofthepie.com/wordpress/

This is what I get on my dashboard page and I have no idea of how to get into the files through an FTP:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_rtl() in /home/content/k/m/u/kmulch/html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/hello.php on line 65

I am heartsick about this. Is there any one who can help me?

  • Did you update via the WordPress automatic upgrade or the Godaddy control panel? The problem seems be an issue with the theme file. Are you using the TwentyTen theme?

I updated through the Godaddy contol panel. Yes, I am using the TwentyTen theme.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function home_url() in /home/content/k/m/u/kmulch/html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/twentyten/header.php on line 63

I can see the error on your site. If you’re able to get to the wp-admin panel, try the automatic upgrade. I suspect that there was a change to the theme that Godaddy may have not picked up on.

I’m unable to get to the wp-admin panel. All I get there is this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_rtl() in /home/content/k/m/u/kmulch/html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/hello.php on line 65

And I’m not sure how to get in using an FTP. I do have Fetch but have not used it for my wordpress blog. If I can get in that way (and with some handholding through the forum) I might be able to do this manually. But first need to now how to access through the FTP.

Sorry for being so dense here. And I truly appreciate everyone’s help.

There is a minimal FTP client built into the Godaddy control panel (yes, I’m a Godaddy survivor), but you’ll need to have the update files downloaded and extracted on your computer. You may find that just updating the theme allows you to get in. If this is overwhelming, you can contact me through my web site, weavinginbeauty.com.

    Absolutely. just emailed you.

Is GoDaddy WP hosting Windows based?

I’ve updated my WP site on our own servers and it bombed (windows servers / infinite loop issue many other people have been having) and I did a manual update and it didn’t help.

I also have a client that has a WP site on GoDaddy WP hosting… but I have not touched his – just couldn’t remember if WP hosting on GD is on a windows machine.

    I’m Linux based.

The site is on shared hosting under Linux. The issue was not related to an upgrade to 3.1. Godaddy had told kmcd that she needed to upgrade her WordPress based on their information. She had been upgrading regularly through the WordPress app functionality. Godaddy’s attempt to upgrade to 3.0.5 failed, producing the fatal error.

I assisted kmcd in manually upgrading her site to WordPress 3.1, which solved the problem. This issue should be marked resolved.

Many thanks to atlohi who just spent an hour on the phone with me. With her help, I am up and running once again. Thank you so much!
