• Hello – I have been using your F2 theme for a three years and have paid to have it customized professionally, like backgrounds on sidebars, header etc.

Problem is when I upgraded to this new version it brought my blog back to the basic F2 look, so all my customizations got lost in the upgrade.

I tried the upgrade three times and had to use a back-up to get back to the older version.

How can I upgrade without losing all the personalization? Is it possible?

I am not very html or “code” savvy as the basics I can do but very confusing stuff. Thanks again for making such a great theme.

  • It sounds like the customizations were probably made in the theme files — in which case, yes, they will be overwritten when the theme is updated. That’s why it’s generally recommended that changes be made using a child theme. Unless you or someone else moves all the customizations to a child theme, there’s not a way to update the theme without losing them.

EDIT – just looked at the theme page — see the note there re: customizations. It sounds like even theme options changes may be lost in that upgrade. Hopefully, the author will weigh in here on this too.

Simple answer: You cannot upgrade without losing the personalization.

That’s because version 2.0 is html5, it has different class names, and handles most of the things differently.

You can definitely re-customize the theme. Contact me with the details if you need help.
