    I’ve upgraded to 5.6, WordPress then asked to Upgrade the Network. I have.
    I still see that “WordPress 5.6 is available! Please update now”

    Even after Upgrading the network, I still see;
    Thank you for Updating! Please visit the Upgrade Network page to update all your sites.

    The number of plugin Updates available is also inconsistant. I can refresh the browser page and get a different number. 18-20-19-18…

    I upgrade the network again and see the sites listed 5 at a time, some 504 gateways, refresh, 5 more sites listed as done, sometimes another 5 sites, sometimes 504 again. Then “All done!”. When I think I’m finally done, I get an upgrade notification again.

    I also have a lot of 504 Gateway Time-out.

    I’m hosted on Azure using WebApps. I have no caching enabled in WordPress. The WPMUdev plugins are inactive.

    504 error is likely a server related issue. Therefore, ask your host why the 504 is occurring. Your error_log file may also explain it. So please check the error logs on your server. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

    I’m still getting issues here.
    Ignoring the 504, is there something I can check that would indicate that upgrading to the new WP version was complete or not?

    504 error is likely a server related issue.

    In addition to what I replied before, try:

    manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    – If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Oddly, what resolved this was simply updating the language packs and I didn’t see it after.

    The 504 errors is something different and was probably more misleading than helpful but I thought it would go hand in hand.

    Glad its sorted ??

    This was not totally resolved.
    I realized later the issue happened when the App Service restarted. At that point, the cached site would be lost from virtual memory and so would updates. This refurbished Web app would pick the last saved files from the disk. Unfortunately these plugins and updates would already be out of date since what was written to the disk was days and days late.
