    Hello there all,

I’m using 3.7.1 version of WP with few plugins and custom theme. I would like to update it to latest – 3.8.1, but I’m not if I can do that from admin panel by clicking that “Please update now” link, or I should do that manually by downloading new WP or something.

Also, do I need to switch off or uninstall plugins before doing this, and will the plugins work with new version?

    Thanks,
    Nikola

    Hi Dzonny,

It’s mostly recommended that you backup your database within your hosting first and foremost.

Outside of that, if you believe you’re going to have problems, you should download your entire FTP so you can always go back and replace it should the update not work.

Thanks for your quick answer I really appreciate it.

Yes, I will most definitely make a database and full FTP backup of all files.

So when that is done I should be able to just use link from WP panel in order to update, and I shouldn’t uninstall plugins, right?

Don’t uninstall the plugins, but it might be a good idea to deactivate them. The 3.8.1 from 3.7 is quite significant, so any plugins that haven’t been updated accordingly COULD see issues.

Yes and you should not have to uninstall plugins.
