Upgrade from 2.9.1

  • Hi there,

    Was wondering – would you upgrade directly from version 2.9.1 to the current (3.5.1) ?
    Also my client is using a theme that has not been updated for two years now (UnspeakableDogness), what are the issues I can expect for the upgrading ?

    Yes I am reviewing it, it says there “…For example, if you plan on upgrading from 2.5 to 3.5.1, upgrade to 2.7 first, followed by 2.9, and finally 3.5.1. Essential, it’s okay to skip one release, but never skip TWO when upgrading.”

    Just wanted to hear some personal experiences and troubleshooting expected…

    The theme may not be compatible – check on that. If not, your client will need to find a new theme.

    Make a good complete backup before proceeding on any updating.

    Yes, absolutely update – it’s a major security risk to run old versions and WP servers are under major attacks right now.

    Yeah I know…that’s why the upgrade.

    Is there any way to look at the theme’s structure to evaluate the level of compatibility ?

    Yes, that’s it.
    Keep a spare copy of the backup of the entire site and start working. You are welcome to ask for support as and when required. ??
