Upgrade Disaster

The upgrade to 3.4 I just tried lead to disaster. After backing up the site, the upgrade generated an error message about a “fatal error” and froze me out of the site. I had to go to GoDaddy for help just getting back on the site. To do that I had to delete all plugins. That caused all all my gallery pictures to disappear from the site. All folders are still on the GoDaddy FTP Manager site under wp-content. Can someone tell me how to get the pictures to reappear on my website?
