• I am on the nightlies on a test server.

The footer in the admin panel used to have a link for ‘stay updated’ when updates were available.

Now, I notice that it is always a link, and when I go to the upgrade page, it always says that an upgrade is available. Even after running an upgrade, it shows upgrade available.

Surely that isn’t right? I thought there was a nightly update, so it can’t be happening all the time? Or is the upgrade somehow not actually upgrading?

  • ?? that is a whole different story. its a (formerly)wpmu network, with ~50 plugins alone in the mu-plugins folder, although most of them only influence the back end…
asking about plugins is pointless, there are too many to check/list.

what are you looking for? if you have a specific function in mind I can grep and see if any of my plugins contain it?

wpmu == multiste 3.0 ?? No worries. I translate well.

The thing is… I don’t know what I’m looking for. My only guess is that somehow one of your plugins is causing a conflict (since if this was endemic of WP itself, more people would have the issue). The normal thing to tell people here is ‘Turn off all your plugins.’

That’s not really something you want to do, Carnac says. I know :/ I would probably turn off one for a day and see what happens. Repeat ad naseum.

the point is that even if I put the site down for maintenance and disable all plugins + mu-plugins, I need to keep it in that state for at least half a day, to see if the problem resurfaces ??

maybe when the next version is out I’ll give that a try. or when7if I install buddypress ?? that would warrant a bigger maintenance break ??

thanks for spinning some ideas around for me…

I am constantly told that I have updates required with a little ‘1’ next to the word ‘Updates’ under the dashboard section.

This is true of all 5 sites I have that are running WP 3.01.

When I click on the Update link I am then taken to the update page where it says:

“You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to update. However, if you want to re-install version 3.0.1, you can do so automatically or download the package and re-install manually:”

Like the story of the boy who cried wolf, I am ignoring it now and fear I might miss an important update.

Why does this glitch exist in 3.01 and when is it going to be fixed. It is incredibly annoying.

I got quite annoyed as well. So i entered the /wp-admin/upgrade.php url in the browser, it told me I didn’t need a database upgrade, but at least the update message disappeared! I hop it doesn’t come back.

    Nope, it’s back ??

    lol ??

I still got the same problem. really hoping the next version will fix this. just ignoring it for now.

Same issue here – I manually (copied files) to upgrade to 3.01, ran install, was told I had the latest version, but Dashboard still says 2.7.1 and header and footer ask me to upgrade. Glad it’s not just me!

If you’re using the BETA, ALPHA or RC version of WordPress, please raise a ticket in trac.

If you’re using the RELEASE version of WordPress, make a new topic and list things like if you’re using MultiSite or not, your plugins, etc. Also, when you manually upgrade, try deleting the whole wp-includes and wp-admin folders first.

just installed a wpmu 3.0.1 site, and I receive the update notification error described here as well.
When i nav to the update submenu, the notice dissapears. a few hours later it comes back.
Strange.. not an issue for me tho because only I (super-admin) see it, and the clients(admin) do not.
