Upgrade 1.5.1 to 2.3.1 possible?

Hi guys,

I’ve been running a wordpress blog for ages and love it. Due to limited time and resources available I haven’t been able to upgrade the blog for ages.

The blog has 1,336 posts, 593 comments, 73 categories and about 100 static pages.

Yesterday I tried to upgrade it from 1.5.1 to 2.3.1 but that didn’t work well. The database upgrade removed all the sub-categories and they are still in the database but can’t be seen on the category page in the wp-admin. Also there’s a load of memory issues and some other problems that made me wonder if jumping from 1.5.1 to 2.3.1 was such a smart idea.

I’m having trouble getting the old database back since both my admin panel as phpmyadmin give lack of memory and time out errors. So waiting for my host to get them back up and hopefully you guys can tell me what’s the best course of action to get my 1.5.1 to a working version of 2.3 or 2.3.1.
