I had a website, new.StresslessHomeStaging.com. On this website backup and restore of the website appears to have worked perfectly.

About a week ago, I had GoDaddy change new.StresslessHomeStaging.com to https://www.StresslessHomeStaging.com. The website worked although now when I use UpdraftPlus to backup https://www.StresslessHomeStaging.com it consistently hangs at about 25% completion according to the progress bar. I am unable to determine why. The hang occurs in both versions 1.11.1 and 1.10.3. It occurs about 30 minutes into the backup.

According to GoDaddy, all they changed to make things work was a change to the DNS entries as well as an “A” record change.

Here is a link to a directory of 5 log files:

I have been unable to take a backup for almost a week.

When I use FileZilla to copy my website to my local computer, the process seems to complete normally. Sadly, I don’t think FileZilla copies the WordPress database which, I believe, UpdraftPlus does.

I wonder if the problem I am having is unrelated to the move from new.StresslessHomeStaging.com to https://www.StresslessHomeStaging.com.

Maybe it’s that things stopped working on 2015-08-06.

I seem to be having the same problem that

    is having.

    Hi Ralph,

The log file I looked at indicated that the webserver isn’t providing enough resources to manipulate larger zip files. To work around this, you need to configure UpdraftPlus to produce smaller zip files, and then less resources will be needed, and it should succeed. To do this:

    1) Go to the UpdraftPlus page, and to the ‘Settings’ tab
    2) Scroll to the bottom, and open the ‘expert’ settings
    3) Reduce the ‘split’ size in those settings down to 70Mb
    4) Save settings

    Then, start a fresh backup.

I reduced the split size to 70Mb and it still hangs.

    Hi Ralph,

Keep going down until you get a setting that works – e.g. try 50Mb next.

Also – I’d recommend turning off debugging; the extra logging uses more resources and the extra that’s logged isn’t useful for this particular issue.

    50Mb seems to have worked.

    Thanks.

Can you explain how you knew that this was a resource issue from the log file?

    Hi Ralph,

Very little gets added to the uploads zip in the last few attempts, before UD gets killed off by the webserver for using too much time. Each attempt ends whilst trying to add things to that zip, but hardly any further on from the previous attempt. This suggests that adding things to the uploads zip is taking a long time; so, reducing the zip size helps resolve that.
