    Hello Support.
I have just installed UpdraftPlus and am trying to backup to a local drive. In looking in the log, I see an error code: 15 and a link to https://www.info-zip.org/mans/zip.html for “interpretation”. The error code occurs many times and the log is verboase. This link is no longer available. I am running this as an admin.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks.

    Hi David,

Apologies for the inconvenience. I will make a note to update the link.

Error code 15 in this case refers to “Zip could not open an output file (typically the archive) for writing.”

This is usually caused by the hosting account or server running out of disk space.
Please could you check the amount of available space in your account?

Please could you also send a copy of the log? The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Hi DNutbourne.
I was only to paste a partial log list because of size limits from Pastebin. Her is the link. Let me know if you need further log entries and I can create multiple Pastebin files. her is th elink:

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

The log would indicate that the most likely cause is that the hosting account is full.

Please could you check how much space is available?

    Hi.
Thanks for getting back to me. There is 45GIG+ available, plus not a single file has been written. I would have thought at least one zip file would be been written to the target folder. BTW, this target folder is on a local PC on which I am the admin.
    Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hi David,

The write failure is occurring on the first backup file (plugins).

Please could you test a backup without including the Plugins section?

Please could you also check the file permissions and file ownership for the site?
The PHP user (usually www-data) needs read and write access to the wp-content directory and all sub-folders.

That worked!! I was able to perform a backup and a restore. I changed the remote storage to use Google Drive and then added the plugins to the backup, did another backup, made a site banner change and then another successful restore!! ??

Am I able to use my local PC drive instead of remote drive for my backups?

    Thank you!!

    Hi,

If you don’t choose a remote storage location, backups will be stored in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the site. (This is an option that we least recommend, as it makes the backups vulnerable to situations that delete the wp-content directory.

To backup to your local PC, you would need to have the PC set up as an FTP or WebDAV server. I’m afraid that we would not be able to give support on setting that up.
