Hi, I’ve been using Updraft to back up my website for years, and suddenly, like 3 months ago, I realized it was not working anymore, except if I start it manually.
I have investigated all I could:

-> I have version 1.23.10 installed (the latest)
-> I already wiped-out the setting to see if it helps, but it didn’t help

And also, I installed a plugin named WP CRON to visually see all the crons jobs, and something weird is showing:

    Next run -> 7 hours 38 minutes
    Recurrence -> Every hour

As you can see, it is supposed to start every hours, but it says at the same time that it will start in 7hours 38 minutes.

Also, as I thought it was a mainly a problem with my hosting (Siteground), I installed another backup plugin (that I don’t like), but it worked.

So, I guess there is something wrong, but I can’t find where …

Thanks in advance to help with that, I’m starting loosing my mind ! ??

If this can help, here is the error I get in my php_errolog on my server:

“Task rescheduling event error for updraft_backup_database hook.
    Error code: invalid_schedule.
Error message: The scheduled event does not exist.
    Data : {“schedule”: “everyhour”, “args”:[], “interval”:3600}”

Can you install the free plugin WPCrontrol and take a screenshot of your Cron events?

    Hi,

Sure, you can see a screen shot on this link: https://share.zight.com/mXuvpXrr

Do any of your tasks show as overdue?

What do you mean by that ? I’m not sure to understand …

Concretely, what I can is that after the backup fails, I see that:

And then, in WP Control, the “Database” cron job that I showed you disappear.
Then, if I save my settings again, the cron jobs comes back, and shows what I showed you first, until it fails again … etc

    Does this help ?

There are two reasons why a scheduled event might not run

    1. Your site scheduler is broken (which is why I am asking about overdue events)
    2. Low visitor numbers at the time of the backup.

I believe your issue is related to low visitor numbers.  UpdraftPlus can only make a backup when WordPress is loaded into Memory.  This normally happens when someone visits the site.

I would recommend setting up a number of dummy visits to the site via an external cronjob.

These are automated tasks performed by the server.

You will need to set up an automated task to visit your site (please set the cron job to visit: https://yourdomain.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron )every 5 – 10 minutes (This will also keep the rest of your WordPress scheduler running):

Your hosts may have a tool to set up a cronjob, or you can use an online  tool such as EasyCron

    Hi,
I did what you suggest, but I really doubt that “low number of visitors” is the problem, considering that Updraft has been working fine on my website for years, and that it stopped 2 months ago.

Also, I guess that if my site scheduler would be broken, all the other functions from my website would also fail (I guess), including Backwpup that I installed while waiting for a solution here, and works like a charm !

I’ll keep you posted to tell you if the problem is solved (because of the cron job) or not in the next 24h, but I would really be surprised !

Meanwhile, Would you have another idea or suggestion ?

    Thanks

In tools >> site health> info? do you see any warning or errors?

    Hi,

No, there is nothing there. The only error I saw (that I gave you at first), was the one in the php_error.log file.

While I was waiting for some more ideas to find a solution here, I decided to take a look at some plugins in my website, to test if there could be any conflict. And I found it ! So I’m gonna write it here, so maybe someone won’t loose so much time as I did with that problem.

I use Asset Cleanup Pro, and I can’t tell the problem comes from the plugin, or some settings in the plugin, but if I deactivate it, the backup comes back. That’s it … you can close this conversation.

Thank you for this, I will do some testing and see if I get the same issue
