Hello! I’m a long time user of Updraft and I’m encountering a strange problem that I’ve never had before.

Recently installed Updraft on a WordPress site, configured it to backup to Dropbox (authenticated OK) on a monthly basis. I wanted to do a backup right NOW to get things going, but the “Backup Now” is disabled and at the bottom of the page it has a field called “Backup Directory” with the name “updraft” already entered. It goes on to tell me there is no such directory, I need to create it, check permissions, etc etc etc. In other words, I am unable to do a “Backup Now”. (does this mean it will still do a backup on its own at another time??)

The odd thing is when I view this exact same Updraft Settings Page on another site on the same web host – – the settings page does NOT show that same field “Backup Directory” near the bottom of the screen with “updraft” entered. No mention of “backup directory”.

What to do? Why does Updraft Settings page look different on different sites? I’ve never been required to specify a “Backup Directory” name before on any site I’ve used Updraft on.

Thanks for your help!! This is the site – – still in development – –

p.s. the specific message I get from Updraft is:

The ‘Backup Now’ button is disabled as your backup directory is not writable (go to the ‘Settings’ tab and find the relevant option).

Backup directory specified does not exist.Click here to attempt to create the directory and set the permissions, or, to reset this option click here. If that is unsuccessful check the permissions on your server or change it to another directory that is writable by your web server process.

    Hi,

The Backup Directory option displays automatically when there is an issue with the backup directory. Otherwise it is hidden in the Expert Settings section.

The message you are receiving indicates that UpdraftPlus was not able to create the backup directory when it was installed.

Could you first try deactivating and reactivating UpdraftPlus?

If that does not work, then there is an issue with the file permissions in your ‘wp-content’ directory. You will need to check the file permissions (or have your hosts/server admin investigate), and ensure that WordPress has permission to write to the ‘wp-content’ directory.
