Updating your plugin triggered Woocommerce error

We cant activate Woocommerce now and is causing us a big mess.

The error itself is pretty generic on the Woo side. It would help immensely to get the Automator > Status report; perhaps you could paste that but remove the URLs (or send us a copy via our website).

One thing we’re wondering is if maybe you’re running the Woo Admin plugin separately, which was previously available as a separate plugin and was then merged into Woo.

No, we don’t use the Woo Admin plugin.

We restored the backup so we don’t have the status report from the plugin. You may do a test on your site first.

Sorry, do you mean you have a test environment we could use? It’s not something we can reproduce on our side (or else it would of course be fixed). Seeing the current status page even with a 4.x version of Automator (available at the link above) would help immensely.

Thanks for the additional details. Our dev team was able to take a look, and while there’s nothing obvious linking errors to Automator, they did have some questions and requests:

• Were files for Automator or Woo plugins manually uploaded to the server by FTP?
• Is there any chance any plugin folders were renamed and that there could be 2 versions of a plugin in 2 folders?

The error itself is happening when Woo checks for updates, where something is going wrong and a required object isn’t passed. It’s similar to this Woo ticket, where a conflict test is recommended. Do you have a Staging environment where you could switch to a default theme, then disable all plugins except WooCommerce, then activate Automator to see if it still happens, then activate other plugins to see when things fail?

We don’t use the filter affected in Uncanny Automator, but we do in Pro related to a license check. Had you had a version of Pro active during the previous fatal?

We did notice that both of you have Pro but it’s not activated; it would be good to confirm if this still happens with the license key from us activated. wp-content/plugins/uncanny-automator-pro/src/core/admin/licensing/EDD_SL_Plugin_Updater.php

While we can’t reproduce the issue ourselves to confirm it will work, this updates a library file that may be responsible for your issue.
