Updating wrong .htaccess

  • Looked around but couldn’t see anyone with the same problem…

    Go permalinks working, bt initially nuked my site a while back trying to set up permalinks…works fine now but what I learned on attempt one is confusingly WordPress tried to update the .htaccess on my root folder rather than the subfolder the blog is in or the subfolder the blog appears to be in..

    This time it did same but I made sure there was no extra whitespace and it didn’t make my site go down this time! When I copied it to the subfolder where the blog appears to come from https://www.mutantpop.net/radioclash/ it worked fine (that URL is not where the blog actually is)

    So my question is: does WP update the rewrite rules if you say add a category?

    Will it do this again – modify the wrong file?

    And why is it trying to update the wrong htaccess?

    Since permalinks are working, WP will not have to update .htaccess again. As for it modifying the wrong file, you may have the site/blog URLs set incorrectly in Options/General.

    the options are correct (for a blog in different directories?)
