I recently updates WordPress to the latest version (Im not entirely sure which version its from) and after I did that, occasionally when using the site or backend, a blank screen would come up and show the text “error”.

I restored a backup and its all ok now.

I dont want to keep this old version forever. What can I do to update, without this issue?

    Thanks !

Update to 4.3.1 again, but when you see the error again, do this:

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
