Updating to 3.1

We had a developer that built our web site fbc-tempe.org modifying a word press theme (or something). That developer has since dissappeared. The last time an update was necessary, we didn’t do it for some time and it caused an emmence amount of problems. I don’t have any idea what would happen if we updated wordpress to 3.1 and how to go about fixing the problems in the code. Do you have a live talk to person that can work me through this?
