• I’ve managed to break WordPress when attempting to update my Theme. I foolishly tried installing a later build of ListingPro on top of an existing installation. When it threw an error I tried activating TwentyTwenty so I could deactivate and delete ListingPro and install the later build.

Now I’m getting “There has been a critical error on this website” error. If I rename the ListingPro theme’s folder to TwentyTwenty the website loads. Although as soon as I install a new theme and try to activate it it gives me the above error again again.

I’m guessing I’ve knocked things out of sync. Will I have to edit a config file to resolve this error? If so which one?

    Regards,

    Ian

I recommend asking at ListingPro theme’s support so the theme’s developers and support community can help you with this.

Since you use a commercial theme and need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations: https://themeforest.net/item/listingpro-multipurpose-directory-theme/19386460

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product. Commercial products are not supported in these forums.

I’ve requested help from the theme’s support channel, but they’ve requested FTP access to my website to rectify the issue. However, I’m hosting the site via my own home dedicated web server which is only online when I’m working on the site. Not to mention also wanting to know how to fix the issue myself instead of having it fixed for me.

I don’t see this issue as being so much as a commercial theme issue, but more of a WordPress issue as the issue can be caused by one of the many free themes available.
