Am I likely to find any problems with the child theme getting messed up after updating Modality? I am using 4.3.3 and not yet done a theme update. Now the child theme is set up, I am good to go. I am wondering what to expect once I click the update button. Hopefully everything looks the same. Any insights, please?

The purpose of creating a child theme is to avoid losing your theme modifications and customization when the parent is updated. It’s actually to your benefit that you have gone in that direction. The greater majority of the time, everything goes smoothly. There should be no changes at all to your child theme.

That said, your best protection against any unanticipated results during any update is to make sure you take a backup before you update or make any major changes. Reference: WordPress Backups

Once that’s done, go ahead and update the parent theme. That way if something odd does happen to pop up, you can simply replace it with your backup copy – but chances are, you’ll be just fine.
