• Hi,

I would like to work on my website offline and then update the new pages and posts when they are completed. There seems to be a lot of information about working offline but I can not find any thing regarding the major problem of managing comments between revisions. i.e. I am working offline on my computer and it takes me a week to create 3 new posts, when I export my local database I will lose all of the comments received on the online site over the same time period. I know there is the option of exporting the database from the online site but then it will overwrite the new content.

Is it possible to work offline and manage comments between revisions without using a third party plugin? I read somewhere that comments and posts can not be separated. Is this true?

  • Comments are associated with their posts in the database. It’s tricky (but not impossible) to import only the three new posts you’ve created offline without completely over-writing the entire database, which would remove comments added to the live site in the interim.

For the example workflow you’ve provided, you could just work on creating the posts on the live server, keeping them in Draft mode until you’re ready to publish.
