Updating plugin, can’t access backend now

My WordPress site automatically updated last Friday. This morning I went to update some of the plugins. However, after I updated the first one in the list (which I had checked was compatible with the current version of WordPress), I got bounced out and now I cannot access the backend of the website. I have a plugin that creates backups every two weeks, but I cannot restore the last version since I can’t access the backend.
