Updating Permalink settings throws 500 internal error

Hi there,

Since you have already tried renaming the htaccess file, see if you can increase the PHP memory limit as another possible fix.

Here is a tutorial on how to do that, as with most changes like this I would recommend you take a backup of your site before you do this or similar solutions:

Check the Apache error log; the issue should be documented there. Ask your hosting company for assistance if you don’t know how to do that.

Thanks, followed the instruction to include that in the wp-config file and when I go back to the permalink settings page to Save changes, it shows me the 500 error again. The only way Im able to get the site back up (just the admin and homepage, the other pages still show error 500) is to rename the htaccess file
