• Hi!
In my link manager, I have a list of a dozen blogs, xangas, livejournals of all sorts belonging to friends. I’m displaying them alongside on my blog page. What do I need to do in order for the most recently updated blog, xanga, or LJ to be displayed at the top of the list? I’m comfortable editting code and I tend to not screw up, do stupid mistakes. However my understanding of xml, rss, etc is pretty limited. Can someone provide clear cut directions, if it’s even possible, to get what I want?
    Greatly appreciated,
    Rob

  • It’s not what you need to do as much as what they do.
When they publish a post, where does their service ping ? If it’s weblogs.com, then you are fine ??

Oooo, thank you! Do you know if services like livejournal or xanga ping their entries to weblogs.com? If not, is there anything else I can do about it?
I cannot seem to find the file that he mentioned in the directions. Where can I find links-update-cache.xml ?
    Thanks again.

I forgot to ask… what are the advantages and disadvantages of using this versus blogrolling.com? Thank you so much for your patience.

Blogrolling ? No idea, I’ve not used it.
The file should be inside /wp-content, and each service should have a details page about pinging I assume ..
Is there anything you can do ? Yup – find where they do ping, and alter / add that service inside wp. I answered this recently about changing from weblogs.com, but I’m not sure about adding one to the core file – I don’t do PHP ??

Go read this, it’s how I get Blogrolling in my index.php

    Look at # 7.
