Updating Inventory Quickly with a CSV or EXCEL FILE

So I am new to ecommerce and am currently in the process of starting a website. I will outline my issues below.

1.) How do I upgrade to a new version? I can see the person who designed my site gave me a very old version.
2.) I use a supplier that keeps a log of inventory via CSV and XLS. I was wondering how I could import these into my site instead of manually changing every single price.
