Updating from 2.6.1 to 3.0.5

Hello,
Im trying to update my wordpress site and im going plugin by plugin,when i faced this i actually faced some problems:
1 – In the new version i wasnt able to get the contributor to use as coa-author anymore (i was able to in the old version w/o touching the core),i’ve solved this but i had to modify the core which is never a good practice.
2- All the co-author disappeared,starting from the back-end posts list to the post edit,is there a way to understand whats wrong with this version / what should i do to fix this?
