“Updating Failed” While Trying To Edit Pages

  • Hi,

    I just updated to the latest WP version and I’m trying to edit my page(s) but once I make the edits and try to “Update”…I receive a red ‘error bar’ which states “Updating Failed.”

    I can see the page is trying to save but it isn’t able to do so and then, my entire page freezes up.

    I’m using Google Chrome browser and have just had my website cleaned of malware by GoDaddy & Google verified that the site is free of malware.

    Any idea if a plug-in is causing this issue?

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    For me, it was the settings for wordpress address and site address; they had the wrong protocol. That meant the json request couldn’t be fulfilled, it was if you navigated to the url.

    So for me it was a simple, if obfuscated seeing as i started to think it was a server thang.

    Temporal solution!!

    I had the same problem. To fix it I just went to Settings – Permalink, and set it “Plain”, that is https://yourdomain.com/?p=123

    This is a temporal solution because I don’t like this setting, I usually use “Post name”.

    I realized when I checked the error log in the server, and I found a “File does not exist” error, refering “https://mydomain.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=16&action=edit” as the file.

    I am very distressed I can not do anything on my site, I don’t see the text when I go to edit a page and all I see are blocks !!! what do I do ????? HELP

    I cannot seem to edit a page. All I get is the spinning wheel and a freeze.
    Have not done anything different that I know of.

    Thank you, it has worked for me. After I changed it to “Plain”, minute later, I got back to “Post name” again and there has been no issue.
