Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response. with scripts

  • While using certain scripts (like linkback buttons) in custom html blocks I get the “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.” until I erase the block.

    I tried:
    -changing permalinks to plain
    -disabling all plugins
    -adding an html block to new fresh blank page
    -reinstalling WordPress
    -using a different browser

    the scripts in a custom html block seem to work on my other wordpress sites… I tried 2 different ones

    Sorry for the late reply. I recommend not trying to embed any functional script as block content. WP will often corrupt your script in some subtle manner. It’s better to place your script somewhere else on the page like in the head or footer sections, or on an external file. If your script must occur inline with content, either insert it via shortcode or build a custom block that runs your script.
