• FYI, I just set up a new WP site with no plugins, but in a subdirectory that resolves to root.

I couldn’t edit the default hello world post, nor could I create a post with the new editor. I always got the error “updating failed.” On googling, I see that this a common error, or I found a lot of threads with the same error. Any way like other posters found, switching to the classic editor fixed my problem.

This website is hosted in a shared environment, with cPanel.

I don’t need support in the sense I used others suggestions to fix my problem. But I do want to report that something is seriously wrong with the new editor.

What is in your .htaccess file?

After you take a look at it, visit the Settings->Permalink page, and let it update your .htaccess file.

    Compare the before and after.
