We are having an issue updating our website. I’m not a coder or super advanced, so please bare with me. We have a WordPress site that is using a Porto theme and WPBAKER Page Builder.
Both of these were outdated and needed to be updated. However when we TRY to update either one, it crashes the whole site. Its just a bunch of code and everything is ruined.
The first time this happened, I tried to deactivate every plugging one by one hoping it was just a small plugin causing the problem. After everyone was deactivated, it was still broken. So I reactivated all of them and it restored the website! (mind you that the two updates never went through, they both gave me errors and just crashed the site).
When I clicked to try and update the two plugins again, it crashed again. Reactivating all plugins restored the site again.
All other plugins are up to date mind you.

These are the errors I was getting when trying to update Porto and WPB
‘Authorization code is invalid or can’t connect to API servers!’

It won’t let me update either. As soon as I click update, it gives me the errors and crashes the site. I can’t even figure out how to update either one.

Those last two are errors that were popping up. Not really sure how to fix those. I read to contact your host to fix PHP errors like that. I called them and said everything on their end was good.

Login to your host and increase the max_input_vars, and the max_execution_time:

@corrinarusso Hi and thank you so much for responding. That was very helpful.

This seems like a lot of stuff that is way beyond my skill sets.

So, it looks like I can contact the host (Ionos) and they can change/fix all of that except for adding that WordPress file, correct?

Does WordPress offer some sort of support to add that file for me? I don’t even know where to start to add a file like that.

“WordPress” in and of itself does not provide this support.
The open source commmunity relies on individuals providing helpful advice.

You could Google search “wordpress support <in your city>” and you will find local vendors to provide support in hours, or purchasble blocks (recommended), etc. Or you could use freelancer.com, codeable.io – lots of options. The longer conversation is that for business that lack these skills, you are better off paying a WordPress vendor a flat monthly maintainence fee to manage the technical components of your site.

I don’t know if IONOS will do this for you – but ask them first.

So I was able to get a hold of my host, Ionos. They walked me through how to get to the webpage to increase PHP and such. But now I’m not really seeing an option to increase it to what the errors are showing.

So the errors were showing

But when I’m on Ionos, they don’t give me an option to change them to what the errors are saying.

The memory_limit is already at its max 128m

The max_execution_time is at 30(default) but I can only change this to go up to as high as 120

max_input_time is at 60 but will only allow up to 120 as well

post_max_size is at 8m and only allows up to 16m

upload_max_filesize is at 2m and only allows up to 16m

That error is saying that I need an execution time of 300-600. How am I supposed to do that if I don't have an option too?

Is this because Ionos just doesn't offer that? 

If that's the case, is this why the website is crashing when I try to update it? So the newest update is requiring these things and Ionos doesn't offer it?

Sounds like you need to reach back to IONOS.
You pay for their support, so lean on them.
