Updated Wordpess Can't Upload Media

  • So I updated without backing up and now I’m stuck. I am getting weird errors I never used to get when I try to just approve a comment and other small things. All of that is throwing me off but I can deal with it since it doesn’t seem to hold me up. What really is frustrating me is the fact that I can not upload a single photo or even see my media library….

    I am using a child theme so I reached out to my theme support. He suggested I activate the main theme just to see if that fixes the issue but that he has updated everything to be compatible. I found that is not causing the issue. He then suggested (and so did other forums) that I deactivate and reactive each plugin. I did that to no result.

    Please help! I am thankful my site is still running and looks great, but I cannot edit it or create any new posts because of this! It has been a week and I just feel like I am wasting time.

  • Could you share the errors you are seeing?

    One possibility is that there is an issue with WordPress 4.5 (that will be fixed in 4.5.1) and an old outdated version of ImageMagick (the software that WordPress uses to manipulate images that are uploaded). You can contact your host and ask if they are using ImageMagick below 6.4.6, and if yes, ask them to update it.

    I will find that out! I did see in the master for the update this part:

    Warning messages where there were no warning messages before: The WP Database code no longer suppresses warning messages. This is intentional, in an effort to help users and hosts find problems with their configurations. However, normal production systems should not be displaying warning messages in any case. Check your wp-config.php file and make sure that the WP_DEBUG setting is set to “false”, and also check that your hosting system has the PHP “display_errors” setting disabled. Debug messages are for testing, not live systems.

    Just not sure how to check for that myself…

    I would really really love if someone could help me figure this out!! I have reviewed the master list for the new update and done everything it said and it still remains the same….

    -I have deactivated and reactivated all plugins
    -I have switched my theme back to the original
    -I have checked to make sure I am up to date on the most recent php

    Other little suggestions from forums that ‘should fix it’ I have done to no avail. My site is completely stuck. PLEASE if anyone else has this issue and knows what else I can try I would REALLY appreciate it. My site is completely stuck since I did the update!!!!

    I cannot view my media library whatsoever. When I try to upload a new image it goes through the whole process and then gives me the error that it can not process at this time. That is it…. not very informative! I can start new posts and save as drafts but without being able to set a featured image I can’t publish anything ?? ??

    It has been over a week now and I am completely stumped and getting very frustrated!! Is there a moderator that is familiar with this? I can’t be the only one dealing with this problem..!

    Same here.. @collettecm did you ever figure it out?
