    Hi

    Website is https://members.thesealedknot.org.uk/

updated a new plugin that someone else installed, did the usual update and lost access to the site and suspect everyone else did as well

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /var/www/members/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-retina-2x/wp-retina-2x.php on line 72

would this be due to someone modifying the plugin or due to a snafu on the plugin itself ?

emailed the guy with ftp access to try and sort it ??

    Hello Steve,

That’s really strange indeed! What do you have at this line 72? I checked the code on my side and there is nothing weird or nothing that would do that normally.

    Hi Jordy

not my website, but one of the admin, main guy disabled the plugin and looks like it got wiped

Same thing just happened to me. I logged on to arcadia.org.uk, saw updates, did them, and got the same message about line 72:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/cockaign/public_html/arcadia.org.uk/wp-content/plugins/wp-retina-2x/wp-retina-2x.php on line 72

PS As far as I remember the plug-in arrived last year together automagically with a new theme called CleanRetina, I haven’t modified it or done anything except update when required.

Given that the only access I have now to the website is via my server’s filemanager, what can I do to remedy this disaster?

suggest you login to the website via FTP and remove the folder for the plugin via

    /wp-content/plugins

I do not have FTP access to the site that had the issue and resolved a problem with a plugin locking me out from my own website by wiping it’s folder ??

Thanks very much, have deleted it and regained access. My theme recommends this plug-in, so I’ll wait and see if the author can mend it, and reinstall when all has been cleared up.

Hi, I have exactly the same error in the same line (72) at the moment of uploading the plugin 30 minutes ago.

My client didn′t give me the FTP access of his website. Now I can not access to the dashboard and I can doing anything because the website is not available…

Any other solution? What can I do? O_O

my site gave internal server error when i update the plugin .. after renaming the folder to check if its from the plugin the site went live again … i m not sure what caused the problem after the new update but my theme also recommend to have this plugin activated … plz help

minimundos – give the client an idiots guide to FTP ??

you can ignore theme recommendations ??

suspect the plugin was not tested much before release ??

Add one more: just updated to 4.0.0 and now all pages I try to access (including /wp-admin) are just returned as blank pages. Haven’t had time to check the server logs for error messages, but this update is clearly b0rked.

Mine crashed too. Had to go into GoDaddy to delete the plug in folder and re downloaded 3.5.4. The older one works perfect. Newer one locked me out of my website

    Hello everyone,

I have started using anonymous functions and that is only supported is PHP 5.3+. I have now changed the code not to use any anonymous functions and it should work for everyone again. I am so sorry for all the crashes! ?? ?? ??

Now it works, you can go ahead, update or download the new version 4.0.2.

Another thing, to all the victimes of this crash. PHP 5.3 was released in 2009. So basically, if your website crashed with the new version of my plugin, it means your hosting service didn’t update its version of PHP for 6 years. It’s very worrying and says a lot about the quality of their service. Be careful, maybe switch to a better hosting service, you might have this or other problems in the future.
