Updated to version 3.5 now having editing problems

  • I really new to word press. My brother-in-law set everything up for me. Its simple enough that I can update my website in a basic way, but not when things start speaking in code. I updated to version 3.5 yesterday and am now having problems. I read the whole topic ‘Troubleshooting WordPress 3.5 Master List’. I didn’t understand half of it.

    When I updated to wordpress 3.5 I received a fatal error message. Now I am unable to edit much on my website. For example:
    – I cannot change if the ‘page’ is public or private
    – I cannot update the URL
    -Permalink: https://www.mingaskillbuilding.ca/skill-building/528-2/, I want to change it to https://www.mingaskillbuilding.ca/skill-building/multi-grain

    Nothing happens when I click edit. My website is https://www.mingaskillbuilding.ca. I honestly apologize for not understanding more than this. I’m just learning.

  • First, to make sure all WordPress 3.5 have been copied when you updated WordPress, you should do manually upload of all WordPress 3.5 files.

    I hope there wasn’t an issue in your database !

    When I updated to wordpress 3.5 I received a fatal error message.

    What was the message?

    Hi Esmi, I’m sorry to report that I no longer have the message. It came up in a browser that I closed. Any other suggestions of what to do?

    Is it inappropriate to provide my website login so you could have a look? I could change my password after?

    Yes – really inappropriate.

    Never, EVER, post logins on a public forum. Apart from the fact that you will, effectively, be giving the entire world access to your site (posts from here are scraped by many sites & indexed by Google within minutes of publication), it’s really not a good idea to grant access to your site to a random stranger on a public forum. Not even if they have the title “moderator” somewhere on their profile. When it comes to logins, paranoia is not only healthy, it’s downright essential. ??

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    I just wanted to let you know that it was an issue with my theme. I needed to update to the latest version that was designed for WP3.5.
