Updated to 4.0.1., now login goes blank

  • I just did the manual update to 4.0.1 and now when I try to log in I get a blank white page. No error, just a blank white page at /wp-login.php. The instructions don’t mention doing anything else after running update.php. So what could I be missing..?

    FYI the blog appears to load correctly for viewers, I just can’t log in to Admin.

    Download a fresh set of WP, delete and re-upload all WordPress files except for wp-content directory & wp-config.php.

    If that doesn’t work disable all plugins–manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
