    Hello –

Like others have posted, the same issue with the Action Scheduler reared its ugly head. We had already updated this plugin to 2.1.1 when it was released a week ago and everything was running smoothly until we just updated 3 other plugins, then it crashed the site.

    Questions:

    1. How was this fine until we updated 3 other plugins?
    2. What is the purpose of this Action Scheduler plugin and why does it have to be installed separately? It looks like it is included as part of your plugin.
    3. Why is this included in non-woocmmerce sites?

    Thanks

  • Hi @viablethought,

I’m sorry you ran into issues with this update! When you get a chance, could you please let us know what 3 other plugins you’ve updated and the site crashed?

    1. It is possible that any of the other 3 plugins are also using Action Scheduler but the version is different.
    2. The purpose of Action Scheduler is to run tasks on the background. It’s not required to be installed separately, it is already included inside the plugin. In some cases, where database tables are not created due to some database configuration, installing the plugin manually helps to create those tables. You can later delete the Action Scheduler plugin.
    3. It’s under woocommerce directory because it is built by WooCommerce but can be used on any site.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello –

    The 3 plugins were:

    EWWW
    Wordfence
    WP Optimize

Weirdly enough, I just updated another site with a similar setup and the update went fine. Not sure what the issue is yet, but definitely keeping an eye on it.

    Thanks.

I just updated another site. had to install the action scheduler plugin, after it ran it looks like it automatically removes itself (the plugin), yet it leaves the tables behind in the DB which WP Optimize is not picking up that your plugin is using it:

I see that the table “wp_wpmailsmtp_tasks_meta” was created. But if I remove the action scheduler tables it produces the errors again and I have to go through the process all over again.

    Thanks

    Hi @viablethought,

I apologize for the confusion. Yes, the database tables that the action scheduler creates should be there for WP Mail SMTP to function properly. Deleting the action scheduler plugin doesn’t remove the database tables. At this time, I’m not sure what takes to be listed on WP-Optimize settings of ‘known plugins using the database tables’, I’ll be back once I figure that out.

    Thanks!
