update user meta

Hello. I am new to PHP code but have been working with word press for 5 years. I am using woocommerce and ultimate member. When my customer pays a deposit that costs $300 via woocommerce with paypal checkout, I want update a “ultimate member” date field (with the current date, today) called “deposit”. I am using the snippets plugin to place my code.

I found some sample code here and edited it slightly and it worked!

The bad news is my website slowed to a crawl, so slow I had to reboot my server to recover it. Here is the actual code in my snippet. Can anyone help me determine what I’m doing incorrectly? Here is a screen shot of the code:
