    Update page states:

    Meta Box Tabs
You have version 1.1.8 installed. Update to 1.1.13. View version 1.1.13 details.
Compatibility with WordPress 6.1: 100% (according to its author)
UPDATE UNAVAILABLE! Please enter a valid license key to enable automatic updates.

Not only does this Plugin show as a free download, but it is listed as current version: 5.6.8 . . . since I inherited this site, I need some guidance as to what to do now. Any thoughts? Was this originally bought as a premium plugin, but its license is now expired, or could the site still function with a free version download/install?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can lend.

    Hi,

Meta Box Tabs is a premium extension. So you need an active license key to update it. Please buy a new license.

If you don’t, the plugin will still work. But you won’t receive any updates or bug fixes.

OK. I just Deactivated it to see what affect that would have — it ended up making some pages show garbled code instead of content. Example: https://matchframecreative.com/contact/

Going back into Plugins, there is NO Activate option — only a Update Required link. So, it wouldn’t allow me to go back to the outdated version of the Plugin… is that normal? I had to take the site back to yesterday’s backup version to get it back to working order!

    To be clear though:
    — the Plugin that I test by Deactivation was: Meta Box Tabs
    — BECAUSE Meta Box itself is (by default for as long as I’ve been involved) set to Deactivated (?)

Which begs the question: how can Meta Box Tabs make that major issue for some pages apparently using it if Meta Box (the main Meta Plugin?) is not even Activated?

At any rate, I have it back to square one and working properly again. Just thought I would alert you to the issues I encountered when doing simple tests to see how/where it was in play on the site. FWIW

    Hi,

    > I just Deactivated it to see what affect that would have — it ended up making some pages show garbled code instead of content

It’s probably because of the code in your theme or a custom code, which might use some fields or values from Meta Box. It’s the theme issue.

    > Going back into Plugins, there is NO Activate option — only a Update Required link.

Activate link and update link is the WordPress things. Meta Box and extensions don’t change anything in this. You might need to check with your developer who developed the site, or check with your role permissions. Unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of the plugin.

    > Which begs the question: how can Meta Box Tabs make that major issue for some pages apparently using it if Meta Box (the main Meta Plugin?) is not even Activated?

Meta Box Tabs only works when Meta Box is activated. See the docs for details. As I said above, the issue is the theme issue, not from the plugin.

    I’ve a similar issue
I’ve bought CRYPTOLAND theme on ThemeForest, and it says that there’s a license for MetaBox, but now I’ve the website in production and Meta Box doesn’t update since the license code is invalid. The only one that I’ve is the license of the theme… HELP PLEASE!!!!

    Hi @apmymy2017 ,

To be able to update, you need to buy a license on our website https://metabox.io/pricing/. Buying a theme on ThemeForest doesn’t allow you to update. Instead, the theme author is responsible to update the plugins for you manually.
