I upgraded my members only site last night (plugin installed successfully and activated). However, I can no longer access my site either through my primary website via url or via the dashboard.
    I receive a 500 error…here is the verbiage:

    Most likely causes:
    ?The website is under maintenance.
?The website has a programming error.

    What you can try:

    Refresh the page.

Go back to the previous page.

    More information More information

This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

Since I can’t get to the site via the dashboard, I can’t even redo the landing (teaser) page since I can’t get to it.

The only thing I can try at this point is to restore my old plugin directory to see if that still works.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks for any help.

Unless you know how to read server logs, you probably won’t be able to track down what your 500 error is from. They are pretty nebulous.

The 2.9.8.1 package itself is unlikely to be the culprit, although it’s possible the update process itself could be.

If you processed the update through the WP admin interface, you are in essence using your browser as a conduit to update the plugin. On a heavy download day (such as yesterday and today), it is possible to not get a clean update.

I would suggest that you download the update directly and upload it to your site via FTP.

BTW… I just looked at the URL you provided in your request in this thread and the site looks to be loading.

Update to my post. I deactivated all plugins and I was able to access the members only site. Activated each plug-in separately and all seems to be working fine. Not sure what the problem is, but seems to have worked itself out.
