    Hello WooCommerce team,

as you might have read in other threads / sources, your newest update 5.7.0 forces many shops to re-setup WooCommerce although they were completely up and running before. We maintain 20+ WooCommerce shops, and see the problem in two thirds of them. We use many different hosts in different data centers and the WooCommerce installations are very heterogenous.

The problem is, that on the dashboard we are shown the WooCommerce setup widget saying “Step 1 of 6”. If we enter the WooCommerce page itself (admin.php?page=wc-admin) and just return to the dashboard, it suddenly says “Step 5 of 6”, without us having done anything.

On the page “admin.php?page=wc-admin we are shown five ready checkmarks (the topmost entries), but two not checked ones on the bottom: “Set up marketing tools” and “Personalize my store”. We don’t want to make any changes here to get rid of this and restore normal functionality especially of the dashboard widget, because we fear to destroy the shops in this buggy, potential unforeseeable situation.

In other threads we saw your support team writing, that you admit this is a bug and will see that in the future it won’t happen again. That’s great, of course.

But you don’t write anything what we as your users have to do now.

    1. Shall we wait and don’t change anything until you release a hotfix in the next hours / days?

    2. Shall we re-setup the open steps ourselves to hopefully get everything back to normal? Couldn’t this crash something, since we have a bug here and will perform our re-setup steps in a buggy situation at all?

Please help us and many others soon and tell us what to do now.

    Greetings,
    -doffine

  • I will follow this thread to see if this forced setup issue gets corrected in a version update. Have enough problems without adding crashed stores to the list…

Same. Why should I have to go re-setup client shops that were working perfectly?

Same. Expect better; at least a warning that this would happen before running the update.

    Same problem.

The dashboard widget says “Step 4 of 6”.
BUT my site is still using Woocommerce Version 5.6.0.
BUT I was notified this morning that tonight WooCommerce Admin was automatically updated to Version 2.6.4 (from 2.6.2).
    So maybe that’s a clue…

I am at Step 3 out of 6. Hope it completes in a couple of day, without any scary happenings.

It would just be nice from WooCommerce Support to let us know here, what we have to do now.

Complete the Setup again? How to get rid of “Set up marketing tools” without installing one of these plugins we don’t want? What to do in the “Personalize my store” setup of our already set up and running shops? Dismiss them? Set them new? What will happen, if we save the new settings in this buggy environment?

Or shall we simply wait for a hotfix?

Please, WooCommerce support, just let us know what to do. Say something. We don’t want to do something wrong.

I am stuck on Step 4 of 6 which seems to want to force me to setup tax rates. I too hope this will be solved soon.

after applying this update, visiting the /wp-admin/ page on our store (and not other admin pages), result in 600 level critical errors bubbling up, and causing the “There has been a critical error on this website” message to appear.

I dont see anything in the changelog for this update which would seem to cause this.

About the “Step x on 6”: the problem got solved for me (site still using Wocommerce 5.6.0, not 5.7.0) by updating Woocommerce Admin to today’s v2.6.5.

    Maybe this can help others…

    Hi,

I have the setup notice but I didn’t click on it (it seemed dangerous) and it’s still showing step 1 of 6.

My shop seems to be working ok, I installed the update since yesterday so I guess that if you don’t start the setup nothing will happen.

    Waiting for the fix.

For Step 4’s Tax rate (even after adding one line), there’s a top bar on the Tax page (or similar WooCommerce settings pages) that says “Finish Setup” (top right icon).

I just hope that WooCommerce team adds a “Skip” Step 5 (Marketing plugins) as some sites may already have a form of marketing automation set up done.

For those who are facing the “stuck at step x”, hope the tip about that top right icon “Finish Setup” helps!

GitHub reports the setup “bug” except it’s closed at the bottom which I can’t understand? Steps/wizard won’t complete. But this (re)setup BUG is ridiculous on shop that are setup and working. Seems like they flubbed something trying to sell plugins? Anyhow… disappointing and frustrating.

    Hi all,

Thank you for reporting this issue! Our developers are aware of this bug and are currently working on a fix in 5.7.1.

In the meantime, if restarting the setup wizard has caused issues on your site, we recommend restoring from a backup. Then, download the WooCommerce ZIP file that is associated with the version you are currently on, listed here: https://developer.woocommerce.com/releases/

If you have not started the setup wizard, you would be able to dismiss it by clicking the “Hide this” button here:

If you already have the separate WooCommerce Admin plugin, things will go back to normal when updated to 2.6.5. Otherwise, once WooCommerce. 5.7.1 is available, that will fix the re-setup prompt.

I hope this helps and thank you for your patience!

    Hi,

Just installed WC 5.7.1 and the setup notice it’s gone.

    Thank you!
