• Tried to update from 3.8.1 to 3.9.1

    This was the error:

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php
    Installation Failed

    Tried this:
    1. Manual update by uploading the folders:
    – wp-admin
    – wp-includes
    2. Refresh of the backend

Then I got some errors… so it didn’t work.

    What am I doing wrong?

Also tried to set the file permissions of wp-admin/includes/update-core.php to 777
    and got the same error.

Try asking your hosts to check whether you have some ownership issues.

I can easily change the file permissions.
What do you mean by ownership issues?

Files have both permissions & ownership assigned to them. You can change the former via FTP but not the latter. Only your hosts can do that.

hmmm… I think it’s not about permissions or ownership.
Could update another website to WP 3.9.1, which is localized on the same server.

    Any other ideas?

You were right. My host showed me, how to fix the ownership. Obviously there was a plugin (or hacker) changing the ownership and I had to reset it.
    Thx so much ??
