    TheEventsCalendar Creators;

We started working with version 3.7

Added 3 events, working to get them to be displayed.

THEN, offer of update to 3.8 lit up our plugin page.

As soon as I updated to 3.8, the Wp-admin page becomes broken with a message, [depending on the browser] This page has too many redirects.

Have managed to blow up the wp-admin 3 times now. This time, only updating this plugin.

A restore to just before updates fixes issue.

    Theme: Thesis 1.86
    WP_vers: 4.0
    Hosting WPEngine

    Any suggestions?

Restore prevented loss of work, glad to have WPEngine at my side

    Hi dalincer,

I’m glad you were able to prevent loss of work, for sure! This is a bug we’ve discovered in 3.8 and are working on fixing for a maintenance release of 3.8.1. I’m sorry that you ran into it, and thank you for posting!

Please try putting this snippet into your functions.php file: https://pastebin.com/FAvMaaH6

That should prevent the activation screen from appearing, thus interrupting the redirect loop. Once we release 3.8.1, you can remove the snippet so you see future update pages (but without the Loop of Doom, of course!)

Our apologies again that you ran into this bug. Thanks for your patience and support while we get it corrected.

    Best,
    Leah

I will just wait for 3.8.1.

I am diligent about updates, AND, this one can wait until you all are ready.

    Howdy Dalincer,

That is only fair. Just to clarify one thing, so far we have had 6 users with a seemingly related problem, what Leah calls the “loop of doom”. At this point we have been unable to collect information from all but one of them. That one user has been super helpful, but like you did not want to try the snippet.

That’s totally fair. However, without more information like if that snippet even helps we are kind of stuck. I have spent hours trying every single thing I can think of to reproduce the problem using the information we do have. All to no avail.

At any rate, we are rapidly approaching the code freeze for our 3.8.1 release. Due to the lack of info we might not be able to squeeze a fix for this in. I just do not want you to get your hopes up.

Are you running a WordPress multiuser/network site perchance? Could you possible provide a list of the plugins? Thanks for letting us know your hosting info and what theme you are running. That has already helped eliminate one possibility I was worried about. Cheers!
