Update to 1.6 causes missing widget/how to go back to old version

Please update to the latest version of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle – version 1.6.1 which should include a fix for this. You can download that version here or via WordPress update. If you don’t see this update please navigate to WP Admin > Dashboard > Update and click Check again if no updates are present.

If the above doesn’t help, you can download 1.5.11 here. To downgrade to a previous version please navigate to WP Admin > Plugins > Installed Plugins. Disable the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and then uninstall it – your data will remain. Then please click add new at the top of the page and then click upload plugin.

If none of the above helps, could you please send me a link to your website? It’s possible it’s a plugin conflict introduced by another plugin.

I’ve since deactivated all recently updated plugins, and no change. Is it an issue with the WP version?

Preface: This is not a known issue with the latest version of WordPress – we run extensive tests before each update and this wasn’t something that had issues with the latest version of WordPress.

Hm. Based on the markup I suspect this is a minify issue. I know that may sound odd but could you try disabling that plugin temporarily. If that doesn’t help, please try a full plugin conflict test; Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If the above doesn’t help, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

I have systematically deactivated, cleared cached and viewed one by one. And, the culprit seems to be Page Builder by SiteOrigin. When I deactivate that, my 4 slider images reappear, however they are not in a slider format, rather they scroll down the page. Can send you a screen shot if you like.

Actually if you go there now, you’ll see what I mean. Will re-enable in 10 minutes as it looks kind of goofy and I don’t want to leave it that way for long.

Also, FYI, upgraded back up to SO Widgets Bundle 1.6.1. Don’t like using outdated plugins when trying to troubleshoot if I can help it ??

Preface: I saw it

Okay so that’s the disabled version of that page – it’s a fallback if you have / decide to disable SiteOrign Page Builder. As you’ll notice it’s not a slider, just a bunch of images as there’s no functionality tied to those images (as in there’s no actual “slide”).

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for your slider? To do this open up the page with the widget and click prebuilt. Then click import / export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

Yes, that worked – thank you.

With that said, what was the name of the widget you were using? The widget name you’re using isn’t actually a widget included with the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. Actually, it looks to be a custom widget. Just to clarify, at any time during your test did the widget get set as “missing widget”? Outside of course when you disabled the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle (which, ideally, you should do during the plugin conflict test).

Hmmm… maybe? Let me look into that and get back to you in the morning. (It’s really late here ?? Stay tuned for more info.

Solved! You were right, it was a custom widget/plugin. I went to a backup to discover a custom folder, which lived down in the widgets folder of the so-widgets-bundle plugin folder. I re-uploaded that and everything is back to normal.

Now why they would put it there, knowing that it would be overwritten upon plugin update … will need to address that. It also explains why reverting back to an older plugin version didn’t help, as the folder had already been overwritten.

Another example of why we back up before updating anything. So glad I had that backup.
