• After updating to Hybrid 0.7, my site turned in to one big mess…

I have a tweaked and tuned child theme that worked fine with 0.6.x (forgot) but after going to 0.7, it all fell apart. I have files like single.php and category.php customized and uploaded to the child theme folder but apparently, these templates are no longer used.

Suggestion: Would it not be better to include the version in the theme name and folder name? So versions 0.6.x would have been called Hybrid6 in /themes/hybrid6/ and then version 0.7 Hybrid7 in /themes/hybrid7/… That way, on major theme changes (likely to affect child theme operation) child themes that have been created for version 0.6.x will not be affected when version 0.7 is uploaded to the server… Only after their style.css is changed to reflect the new Theme Framework version, will that new version be used.

There is probably a down side to this, or not?

  • It’s likely something was done incorrectly in the child theme or in opposition to the concept of using a framework-based theme if your child theme became a mess.

Hi Justin, would it be incorrect if a childtheme uses it’s own templates like single.php and category.php? I just assumed that since version 0.7 no longer has those templates but – I suppose – uses post.php and archives.php instead, that these customized templates where now suddenly out of use. Which would explain why my posts and category pages are all wrong now…

Don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying Hybrid 0.7 is a mess. I meant my website. And maybe a “mess” is too strongly put, but at least it is no longer as it is supposed to be.

I suspect I can fix it just fine myself (if my supposition above is right, at least) by renaming the single.php to post.php. Archives.php will prove more difficult to tackle, I fear. While I’m in there I’ll probably do some other changes too…

Anyway, just thought I’d share my thoughts since I read in archives.php that in 0.8 it will be renamed again! ??

I found that it is singular.php, not post.php that is responsible for single view now… and category.php became taxonomy-category.php… all is well again ??

BTW, have the functions smart404_has_suggestions() and smart404_loop() been dropped somewhere along the line?
