    Hello,

I know this has been asked a thousand times, but I want to be sure.
I have a child-theme and want to update my theme.

    1. I go to appearence and activate a theme (not the one I’m using (sparkling)
    2. I delete the sparkling (parent theme of course)
    3. I download sparkling again via www.remarpro.com (zip, extract bla bla)
    4. I activate my child-theme

    Is this correct ?

Just want to say that my site is not running. I don’t know how this works, but I can’t update directly, it asks my domain name and ftp etc…

Your procedure is appropriate, it will work properly.

It is usual for a localhost install to not have an FTP service, hence your errors. Downloading ZIP files and installing them manually into your directories is standard on localhost.

Thank you for your answer. I’ve finally done it yesterday, and there was no problem. It just seemed too simple to be true.
Today or tomorrow will be the time to launch my site, and a lot of people say it can be tricky, so I’m kind of nervous.
There are plenty of tutorials out there on the net, but still, it’s a big step.
Also I have to figure out how to protect my site for hackers.

    Anyway, thank you

By way of protecting your site, there are various plugins that assist with this, One is “All in one WordPress Security”
There are others such as “Wordfence”

    Of particular importance are:
    – Don’t have a user login named “admin”
    – Don’t have a table prefix of “wp_”
    – beware plugins, some upload and image management plugins in particular have historically been vulnerable.

    Ok thank you .

Do you think I should also change login password from time to time ? (don’t know if that’s possible when my site is online though)

Will certainly look on the internet about the plugins I installed, to see if they are secure.

Can I ask you what your webhost is ? I’m also trying to figure out which one is best. There is a French one called ex2hosting (a fairly new webhost which seems to have good reviews)

    Thank you

Most people only change passwords after there has been some security event. My opinion is that so long as your password is strong and is not reused on other sites or accounts that it is ok not to change it regularly. A strong password is one that is long enough and uses a mix of digits + alphabet + symbols.

There are a zillion webhosts out there, look for support hours and methods, cPanel management, you get what you pay for. The annual cost of quality hosting is pretty small in terms of business or hobby expenses.

    Hello,

Thank you, again, for your advices.

Wish you a very good week-end.
