Update Network need public access to work?

  • Have any one else seen this or is it limited to my installation.

    Database update after an upgrade only work if I do it manually, site by site.
    If I, after an upgrade try to access a dashboard or click ‘Update network’; my web-server starts making DNS calls, which leads it to access upgrade.php from the external IP of my connection. This is of course not allowed, resulting in slow dashboard access and no ‘you need to update database’ page are loaded. I saw this behaviour last upgrade as well.

    I know I can solve this by hosts or by allowing the external IP-number access, but are curious why this is not executed internally.
    I there anywhere in WP I can poke to make this go away?

  • I’m having a similar issue where my “update network” is not working and after reading this post I wonder if it is the same issue with an outside IP trying to connect to it, because our client has the IP address blocked off to almost all of the outside world right now.

    I have a error 310 on the Upadte Network and this smell really like yours…

    But nobody can find from where this problem is coming from. Still stuck on that ?

    I’m on an external host at the moment, but I did not managed to solve this short of ‘allow’ in the firewall. I tried mapping the domains to localhost in the web servers host file with no success. If I get the opportunity at the next ‘database update’, I will fire up the old server and try to sniff the traffic to see if a DNS server is hard coded in there some where.
